"As Californians continue to struggle with the nation's highest poverty rate and the Economic Development Commission chaired by the current Lt. Governor is defunct, pushing for more drug use through legalization is a bad idea. Unfortunately, this is the latest parade Gavin Newsom is looking to run to the front of.
"The results from Colorado's experiment with pot legalization are painfully clear: dramatically expanded use, children being rushed to emergency rooms, a sharp rise in drugged driving and fatal accidents, and more. This is Gavin Newsom's vision for
California -- one so radical that not even his fellow Democrats Gov. Jerry Brown or Sen. Dianne Feinstein can support it.
"At a time when millions of Californians are struggling with joblessness and poverty, it should be all hands on deck for every state official to focus on making California competitive. As Jerry Brown told Meet the Press, in March 'How many people can get stoned and still have a great state or a great nation...The world's pretty dangerous, very competitive. I think we need to stay alert, if not 24 hours a day, more than some of the potheads might be able to put together.'
