SAN FRANCISCO -- Citing the latest in a series of scandals to plague the California State Senate, Republican Lt. Governor nominee Ron Nehring today called for the release of the final report into rampant nepotism in Senate staffing, and called on Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom (D) to support its release.
"When a report into nepotism and corrupt hiring and personnel practices is paid for by taxpayers, that report should be made public, and the President of the Senate should be leading the charge for transparency and accountability," said Nehring. "If Gavin Newsom has enough time to weigh in on NFL personnel issues, he should have time to support the release of this report on Senate personnel practices."
The Senate's Democrat leadership has stubbornly refused to release the taxpayer-funded report, which is the result of an investigation led by an independent law firm following allegations of nepotism and favoritism surfaced in connection with a criminal trial.
"The Senate's leadership tied their investigative report to a settlement agreement with a former employee. This appears to be a handy way to keep the report secret. Voters deserve to know what is happening in their own State Senate, and they deserve to know before they case their votes," added Nehring.
