Bay Area GOP leaders named to key posts in campaign
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Republicans who came to know Gavin Newsom best while he was mayor are backing former California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring for Lt. Governor. The members of the San Francisco Republican Party gave its official endorsement to Nehring in a vote this week.
"Ron Nehring is the best candidate in the race for Lieutenant Governor of California. The SFGOP is proud to endorse him, and we are confident that his message of lower taxes, limited government, accountability, and professionalism connects with voters. As San Franciscans we are all too familiar with the slick and cynical shenanigans of Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, our former mayor, and we believe that California deserves better," said Harmeet Dhillon, San Francisco Republican Chairwoman.
Several Bay Area Republican leaders have joined the Nehring campaign's top leadership.
Peter Kuo, the Republican State Senate candidate in District 10, will serve as a state co-chair and leader of the campaign's Asian-American coalition. Former SFGOP Chairman Howard Epstein has come on board as the campaign's Bay Area Regional Chairman, and Contra Costa GOP Vice Chair Nyna Armstrong has been named State Volunteer Chairman.
"Republicans need to make major inroads in the Bay Area to be competitive in statewide elections. With their corruption problems and missteps like SCA-5, Sacramento Democrats have opened the door for Bay Area voters to take a fresh look at the GOP, and we're going to be right there to welcome them and build a new relationship that benefits everyone by promoting policies rooted in reform and fairness," said Nehring.
Since opening his campaign, Nehring has rapidly consolidated GOP support, winning the backing of the California Republican Assembly, the California Young Republican Federation, the Republican committees in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego and San Francisco plus noted Republican lawmakers like Congressman Tom McClintock.
