PALM DESERT – Touting the need for a "pro-growth" economic climate that allows California to compete with other states, Republican Ron Nehring on Monday vowed to overhaul the state's tax code if he's elected lieutenant governor.
"We should take everything except Prop 13 and start over," said Nehring, referring to the initiative California passed in 1978 to reduce property taxes. "We're crushing opportunity in California."
Nehring, the former chairman of the California Republican Party, was in the desert as part of his effort to unseat Democrat Gavin Newsom.
